Working from home puts new demands on your living space, but if anyone is up to the challenge of marrying form and function for all sorts of uses, it’s those schooled in the Mid Century Modern way. Find inspiration for a variety of modern home offices.

Serene & Adaptable

Uncertain times call for nimble design. In her Atlanta home, Jessica Davis of Atelier Davis kept flexibility in mind. “I wanted a built-in look,” she says, “but on a tight budget and to be able to move things around if and when we turn it back into a bedroom.” Two desks nestled next to each other provide the extra long surface area and can also easily be rearranged.

This 1951 home in Kensington, Maryland folds an office into the living room where a modular wall unit serves as a desk, offering out-of-sight storage as well as room to display a few favorite books and ceramics. If a dedicated room for an office isn’t available in your house, tucking a work space into a larger room is a creative solution.

Make It Personal

Design and photo by Jenny James of Suburban Pop.

Why not build your home office around your favorite color? Orange and handmade touches define this home office. Jenny James of Suburban Pop loves orange and painted the abstract art herself. Her husband is a hobby woodworker and made the desk. The chair was bought new, but Jenny customized it by painting the legs.
